SERVING GERMANTOWN SINCE 1796
Christmas 2024 Community Needs Recipients
The Community Needs Committee invites the FUMCOG community to respond generously to the following requests to support these needs in our neighborhood:
Germantown Community Fridge
In an effort to address food insecurity and lack of access to nutritious meals, GCF developed the “Community Kitchen,” which makes meals for the Fridge on High St. The prepared meals are in high demand, and in the past 6 months, the team has grown their efforts from monthly to weekly offerings. Your offering will enable GCF to continue this growth and support those who hunger in our neighborhood. See https://www.germantowncommunityfridge.com/ for more information.
DirtBaby
DirtBaby is a NW community cooperative farm that does much more. Part of their work is to distribute free postpartum meals on a weekly basis, made primarily from the farm’s fresh produce. This work is rooted in relationships with local birth workers and community chefs and is critical given the unjust high postpartum mortality rate among Black and Brown mothers and infants in our city. DirtBaby chefs use the FUMCOG kitchen. What a meaningful way to celebrate the birth of Baby Jesus by helping them expand their reach.
FUMCOG Cub Pack 1719
FUMCOG’s Cub Scout pack is growing by a scout a month! Decimated by COVID-19, this recently re-birthed group needs funds to buy uniforms, pay for supplies, and advance camp fees for its active participants as well as future growth. Your generous giving will also help the Scout leaders to create special programming for Tweens (4th and 5th graders), supporting kids in an especially vulnerable time and surrounding them with skills and support.
The Junior Defenders
Junior Defenders is a program designed and coordinated by the Defender Association of Philadelphia. The program responds to a need to educate youth about the courts, a desire to engage young people to become leaders in their schools and community, and an opportunity to encourage youth to challenge injustice and systemic oppression in order to build safer, stronger communities. Your gift will enable JD to expand their “Youth Listening Tour” into a local Germantown high school. Preparing youth, primarily of color, to know their rights and work for justice in our midst also seems very needed in this season.
Please participate in this offering by mailing a check to the Church Office or placing it in the offering plate. You can also contribute at www.fumcog.org by clicking on “Giving.” After designating the amount, please be sure to designate “Christmas Offering for Community Needs” under “Purpose of Gift.” Thank you.
