What does it mean to be a faithful Christian in this time? Theologian Marcus Borg has said that most of us born before 1970 grew up with a faith that worked reasonably well for our parents, friends, and grandparents. The emphasis was upon belief and behavior. Only a generation or two later, millions of people have left the church or chosen never to be part of it.
Today, many people hunger for spiritual experience, yet want also to be part of creating the common good and working for justice. Poverty and hunger, immigration, ecological crisis, health care, food and shelter are global concerns shared by faithful people seeking both revelation and revolution. The summer sermon series will explore "Revelation/Revolution" experience of members of FUMCOG.
